Code: DOC3069Date: 9/5/1816Type: Executive Government

The document is a report prepared by Captain Wallis of the 46th Regiment of an expedition the Captain led in the Airds and Appin districts in April 1816. The goal of the expedition was to clear those districts of 'Hostile Natives' and to apprehend Aboriginal people suspected of committing crimes against Europeans. The short report encloses extracts from the Captain's journal that comprise a day by day summary of the expedition, including an account of the Appin massacre on 17 April 1816.

This is a transcript of the report as contained in the book, A documentary history of the Illawarra and South Coast Aborigines 1770 - 1850 (published 1990, 74 - 78).'
