This law provided for New South Wales to be divided into electoral districts and also provided for the election of members to the Legislative Council of NSW.This law was repealed by the *Electoral Act 1851* (NSW).

Although Aboriginal people were not expressly denied the right to vote in NSW elections, a number of laws, policies and government practices meant that very few Aboriginal people voted until 1962 when the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1962 (Cth) was passed (DOC4568).
