This is an extract paper from the Inquiry into Child Protection in the NSW Legislative Council’s General Purpose Standing Committee (No 2). The compilation of case studies of removal of babies at birth by Family and Community Services (FACS) in NSW was prepared by the Alliance for Family Preservation and Restoration in response to a question asked by the Hon. Paul Green. This paper demonstrates that vulnerable women, including Indigenous women, often have their children taken away at birth without documentation or any offering of support by FACS.
